Situation:
The water supply and sewerage company from Split (Vodovod i kanalizacija d.o.o. Split) was looking for a way In 2015, the local network operator ISZU in Dikili was confronted with the rehabilitation of a 1.5 km asbestos cement pipe. The DN 500 potable water main suffered from multiple breaks over the past couple of months, risking the water supply of the touristy region in the Southern part of Turkey. The water main runs from a pumping station through a 25 year old olive grove and adjacent farm land. The network operator was challenged to provide a quick and economic solution. Since obtaining land easements would have resulted in a costly and lengthy process, the network operator was looking for a trenchless solution with minimum impact on local farmers. With the Primus Line® system, the complete rehabilitation job could be done in only two sections with 600 m and 900 m and thus, resulting in only three small excavation pits. After creating the excavation pits, performing the CCTV camera inspection and a subsequent cleaning, the liner was installed with installation speeds of up to 500m/h and the complete job was done in only 60 hours. Two teams were working simultaneously to expedite the installation process. The life of this water main was extended by at least 50 years.
